This service, provided by mySociety Ltd, enables users to order map images ("maps") and data files showing travel time by public transport to or from UK postcodes selected by them.
We reserve the right to update these Terms from time to time. Please check back to this page regularly.
You must be 18 or older to use the service.
In order to place orders for maps or data files from mySociety Ltd, the user must first register on the site and buy credits.
A contract, under these terms, is formed between mySociety Ltd as soon as credits are purchased using PayPal and mySociety Ltd has received confirmation of purchase from PayPal, at which point mySociety Ltd will send the user an email (to the email address used during registration) as confirmation.
The user has the right to cancel for up to seven days after purchasing credits. They can do this by contacting us and asking for a cancellation and refund. If however any credits have been used during this seven day period to order map images or data files only the value of the unused credits will be refunded to the user.
We may cancel the contract by giving you 7 days' notice of cancellation. If we reasonably believe that you are in material breach of this agreement or that we are required to do so by law, then we may cancel the contract without notice to you.
If the contract is cancelled for any reason, you will be credited the cost of any unused credits remaining on your account.
The price of a credit depends on the number of credits already purchased by the user within the preceding 12 months. Users will be charged according to mySociety Ltd's scale of fees (see pricing) at the time of purchase.
Credits expire after one year from the time of purchase. Any credits not used within one year of purchase will become void and may no longer be used against any further orders.
To place an order for a map or data file the user must first have registered on the Mapumental site and purchased at least one credit. An order may be placed either through our map request submission page (for maps only) or via our API (for both).
The map request submission page, will allow the user to specify the options for each map: postcode, arrival or departure time, maximum travel time (this is then split into five time bands shown on the map) and title of the map.
When a request is submitted via the website, mySociety Ltd will create the map and email it to the email address the user has specified in setting up their user account. Usually, the requested map images will be made within one working day from the submission of request, although we reserve the right to take up to three working days if there is a large number of orders requiring processing.
Should the map you ordered fail to match the description given in these Terms, or should anything go wrong in the process of ordering due to the fault of mySociety Ltd (rather than fault of a 3rd party) we will be happy to refund your purchase or create a new map for you as soon as practicable. Please contact us if this is the case.
The operation of the API is documented at https://www.mapumental.com/api.
When an order is placed the user will be charged two credits per point of interest for each data file and one credit per point of interest for map images.
Custom maps are not provided as a part of this service, but we welcome enquiries about custom maps or large quantity orders. We may be contacted through our contact page. Enquiries are not considered to be orders.
The travel time calculations used for creating map images and data are based on timetables provided by Traveline and Rail Delivery Group which contain scheduled journey times in the UK for a weekday. This data can only be an indication of the likely travel times in the future. The travel times given in map images do not, therefore, represent actual, or even average, travel times and should not be relied on as such.
You agree that mySociety Ltd is not responsible for the accuracy of timetable data or map data as provided by OpenStreetMap. We are also not responsible for decisions you make as a result of using our service.
The map images are derived from the OpenStreetMap operated by the OpenStreetMapFoundation (OSMF) and they are subject to whatever licence or licences are offered by the OSMF. See http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright.
Data files are licensed for your own personal use and for use within your own home or internally within your business. You may not publish or sell the data files or communicate them to anyone outside your own home or business.
Nothing in this agreement is intended to act as an assignment of any intellectual property right.
When you register with this website, we collect and store your email address.
If you make a purchase, your name, contact details, payment and security details are held by the payment processor (PayPal). Your name, email address, the billing address of your card and the last few digits of your card or bank account number are made available to us along with your purchase history. We use this data only for the processing of your purchase, and company accounting — which may involve sharing data with our accountant or HMRC.
In making a purchase you consent to the processing of your data on the legal basis of GDPR 6(1)(b) – Processing is necessary for the performance of a contract with the data subject or to take steps to enter into a contract.
We comply with GDPR requirements regarding the use and storage of your personal data. We are obliged to keep records relating to financial transactions for at least six years following the end of the accounting period in which the transaction took place. We destroy our records after this point; if you require information on PayPal’s policies, please contact them directly.
If you tick ‘I’d like to receive news and updates’ when registering, we will add your name and email address to the mySociety newsletter mailing list, managed via the Mailchimp service. Every newsletter contains a quick and easy unsubscribe link in its footer. Note that Mailchimp may transfer personal data outside the EU. Please contact Mailchimp with questions or concerns about this.
We may, from time to time, send you important information about the service where changes or updates may be relevant to your use of the service.
We will do our utmost to store your data securely. At any time you can request a copy of the data records we store about you.
You may request that we destroy your data, provided that there is no legitimate reason for us continuing to hold it, that is to say if it does not relate to financial transactions or is unlikely to be of any legal or practical purpose in the future. Please contact us to request this.
This service uses a session cookie in order to know whether users are logged in and for the short term storage of information necessary to provide the service such as the volume of maps requested by the user. It also uses a CSRF (Cross Site Request Forgery) protection cookie, to prevent cross site request forgeries which should not store any personal information about the user.
